Project 6 Proposal

 First proposal idea:

A documentary series photographing my job as a nanny. I would photograph the life of a nanny. I would want to communicate the bond the kids and I have, and the tasks of which I preform everyday. I want to photograph the daily life of the few hours in which we spend together. This would include their environment, and the two girls I nanny together. This would create a visual story of what of what our average week, and weeks looks like. I do not have a test shoot as I am not with them on the weekend. I am with them everyday during the week though, so I will update tomorrow after I nanny.

Shot list:

  • Picking them up from school (school, and the girls in the car)
  • snack time, preparing and eating
  • school time, environmental shots of them doing school work
  • play time, shots of them playing
  • their house
  • them with their dog
  • them with their parents the parents get home
  • runnings errands with them
Second idea:

This idea I am not sure about because technically it is an object. I was thinking to photograph the urn of ashes of my grandmother in places that remind me of her, or places I wish I could have shown her or add her for. I would want to communicate the feeling of mourning, and missing someone. I am graduating next month and I will be missing her beyond words at my graduation, which is what gave me this idea. But it is an object so I am not sure this will be applicable in this project. Please let me knows your thoughts.

Shot list:

  • In my apt
  • UC field, where I will be graduating
  • With my dog, whom she never got to meet
  • With my boyfriend, who she never got to meet
  • In my hand, to communicate as if we were holding hands
  • In my favorite park
  • With the ring she gave me

Cartier-Bresson Image Critique

Photo 1 critique: The reason that I picked this photograph is because it was the first one that made me stop out of pure interest. This photograph is incredibly striking to me. The person is captured so beautifully in motion. The perfect reflection in the water below is truly what caught my attention. It looks like the person is walking on water. The fact that the focal point is left skew of center attracts my eye immediately. The composition of the photograph perfect. Nothing in the photograph is static. It all fits and everything seems to have a purpose. The position of the gate along with its reflection makes for a really interesting background subject. The sky along the silhouette of the buildings give a possibility of fog, adding an element of intensity. The many different tones of grays and blacks adds a sense of mystery, sadness even. The blurriness of the person also adds mystery. Because of the blur, the viewer is given no characteristics of the person. It is merely more of a silhouette.

The photograph as a whole leaves me with an immense feeling of curiosity. Where is the person running to? Why are they running? Why are they going to jump into a puddle, is this on purpose or an accident? I wonder how deep the water is and what the object in the water is. The focal point never leaves my mind, even when I am viewing other parts of the photograph. The mood is this picture to me is eagerness. The intense motion in this picture makes me feel this way. While the mood in this picture gives me a sense of eagerness, this picture also makes me feel like time is standing still. A moment of movement, frozen in time.
